John Pallister was the second child of John Pallister & Ellinor Yealder born at Windlestone & christened June 12th, 1780 at Auckland St Andrew, Co Durham.
John married Tamar Lowes (Lowis) on August 13th, 1804 at Wath, N. Yorks. Tamer was of Wath & John was of Auckland St Andrew. Witnesses at the wedding were Elizabeth Smith & Enoch Atkinson. Tamar was born c1771 in Middleton in Teesdale.
In 1832 John was recorded in the Poll Books as living at Windlestone & having a freehold house etc at Witton Gilbert, Co Durham. This property was inherited from his uncle William Yealder of Witton Gilbert.
Tamar died in 1837 & was buried December 3rd, 1837 at Windlestone, Co Durham.
In 1841 widowed John was living at Cottages, Windlestone & described as an agricutural labourer. With him was granddaughter Jane Pallister, the daughter of son Thomas.
John died in 1850 & was buried on November 21st at Witton Gilbert, Co Durham. At the time of writing his will on October 26th, 1850 John was a yeoman of Witton Gilbert. John left all his estate & effects to his children, Thomas, Eleanor (married to Joseph Smith, butcher of Witton Gilbert) & Jane (married to John Young, butcher of Durham), subject to a legacy of £5 to his daughter-in-law Sarah Pallister. His will was proved on March 18th, 1851 by daughter Eleanor Smith & his effects were £20. (The identity of Sarah Pallister awaits clarification. However there is a record of John Pallister, a blacksmith, married to Sarah in the 1841 census of Norton, Stockton, Co Durham. John’s brother Thomas was also a blacksmith.)
